Search Generic Name based on Trade Name

MyOPD ZIP Android app allows you to search Generic Name for the entered Trade Name. Generic Name can be added at the time of adding a new medicine or to an existing medicine that you already have in the app. Below article explains both the options plus reasons why the Generic Name may not be found for certain medicines you enter.

1. Adding Generic Name while adding a new medicine #

  1. While adding New Medicine, you will see options to enter Trade Name, Medicine Type (Tab/Cap etc), Composition, Company name etc.
  2. Tap on “Search Generic Medicine Name (Composition)” option.
  3. App will look for Composition of the entered Trade Name.
  4. A list of matching options will be shown.
  5. Select the one that is applicable.

2. Adding Generic Name to an existing Trade Name #

Use this option when the medicine is already entered earlier in MyOPD ZIP and the Generic Name (Composition) is missing.

  1. Tap Menu (Top 3 Horizontal lines on left) -> My Medicines
  2. Search for your Medicine Name
  3. Long Press on the Medicine Name and select “Update Medicine” option
  4. Tap on “Search Generic Medicine Name (Composition)” option.
  5. App will look for Composition of the entered Trade Name.
  6. A list of matching options will be shown.
  7. Select the one that is applicable.

3. Why is My Medicine’s Composition not found? #

There are cases when the Generic composition of the trade name you enter is not found. While MyOPD has a drug list of around 300,000 medicines, it can still happen.

Below are common reasons why the composition is not found:

  1. Over the counter (OTC) medicines are not a part of our medicine database. These are medicines that typically do not require a Doctor’s prescription.
  2. Multi-vitamins, wellness products, wellness creams, baby formula’s are usually OTC drugs that do not require a Doctor’s prescription.
  3. Spelling mistake while entering Trade names.
  4. A recently introduced Trade Name which is not yet a part of our medicine database.
  5. Ayurvedic medicines
  6. Homeopathic medicines
